Art A La Carte

Art A La Carte is an innovative program designed to expand students’ appreciation of historically significant art, introducing them to the visual arts.  With parent volunteers as their guides, students learn about famous artists, painting, sculpture, and architecture, often in a historical context.  Parent volunteers teach eight lessons per class starting in October and finishing in May.

Each lesson plan includes an instruction folder, art samples, and a finished product for the students to take home.  It is an easy and fun way to spend time with your child's class and get to know their classmates.

Top 5 reasons to volunteer for Art A La Carte!

1 Kids love parent volunteers - Your child and their classmates will love seeing you come into the classroom!

2 Students are proud of their artwork - At the end of the lesson, students enjoy showing off their completed projects with you and their friends

3 Lessons are easy and pre-prepared - All art supplies, information, lesson plans, student art samples, photos of artwork, etc. are provided.   Your child's teacher will stay in the classroom to help you manage student behavior.   No Artistic Skills Needed!

4 The program increases art instruction time at Twain - Art A La Carte helps to compliment what Ms. Cowan is teaching in the art classroom, providing students with one additional art lesson per month

5 Arts education benefits children - Arts education increases creative thinking skills and encourages intellectual risk-taking because art projects tend to be move open-ended without one "correct" defined result.
